• McGruff SafeGuard starts but gets stuck or messages are not being shown at the McGruff SafeGuard website.

If you have accidentally set Norton Internet Security to NOT allow McGruff SafeGuard monitoring software, you need to do the following:

Open up Norton Internet Security control panel and select Personal Firewall, and click the Configure button.  Set all programs associated with McGruff SafeGuard to Permit All, as seen here:

• Norton 2010 Issues

If you have accidentally answered a question to block or deny a program, you can fix it.  In addition, Symtantec's SONAR technology may incorrectly label McGruff SafeGuard programs as suspicious.

 Start up Norton and look at the View Recent History or Security History.  Then select SHOW QUARANTINE.

You may see one or more programs quarantined (pay specific attention to "smss .exe", "spoolsv .exe", "services .exe" and "lsass .exe" ):

Click Options and you will see a screen similar to:

Click RESTORE THIS FILE, and you will see a screen simialr to:

Check the EXCLUDE THIS RISK FROM FUTURE SCANS, and then click YES. 

You may need to repeat this for all of the McGruff SafeGuard programs that you denied.  After you have closed Norton, restart the PC, and reconfigure McGruff SafeGuard by clicking here: Reconfigure McGruff SafeGuard.
