General Information
My anti-spyware/anti-virus is disabled and McGruff SafeGuard still doesn't work
Will my anti-virus/anti-spyware software detect McGruff SafeGuard?

  • General Information

McGruff SafeGuard monitoring software runs several programs, and your anti-spyware/anti-virus progam (such as Norton , Symantec,  ZoneAlarm, etc.) is prohibiting McGruff SafeGuard monitoring software from running these programs.  When this occurs, McGruff SafeGuard may emails you a warning that this has occurred.  The email will say "Service Stopped" or "WinPCap missing".

You need to allow full access for any programs that begin with:

  • ea
  • lite
  • lsass
  • services
  • spoolsv
  • smss

The websites used by McGruff SafeGuard include:

  • Will my anti-virus or anti-spyware software detect McGruff SafeGuard?

When you install & configure McGruff SafeGuard  monitoring software, it attempts to tell the anti-virus/anti-spyware software about itself.  (Actually it runs each of the programs that are included with McGruff SafeGuard, in both "foreground" and "background/detached" mode, interacting with the Internet).  This usually causes the anti-virus/anti-spyware software to ask if the program (i.e. McGruff SafeGuard monitoring software) is allowed to access the Internet.  Once you give permission, the anti-virus/anti-spyware software marks that this program is permitted in the future.

If you download a new version of anti-virus/anti-spyware software, you need to repeat this process.  The easiest way is to download the latest version of McGruff SafeGuard and reinstall it.
