• How do I control which websites my children may visit?

  If this is the first time you are installing McGruff SafeGuard, you can specify the age range of your child, and McGruff SafeGuard will prevent your child from visiting websites that are inappropriate for their age.

  You can select from child, young teen, mature teen and adult.

  • An adult can visit any site (without restrictions).
  • A mature teen (in the 16-18 age range) is restricted from inappropriate sites, but can visit social networking sites.
  • A young teen  (in the 11-15 age range)
  • A child (10 or under)

  If you already installed McGruff SafeGuard, you can modify the settings at the McGruff SafeGuard website after you sign in.  Click CONTROL, then click USERS.  Then click  checkbox Block inappropriate websites based on my child's age, and click Save Changes.  Then you can select the age range for your child.

• How do I let my child visit popular websites like Google or YouTube?

  Click CONTROL, then click USERS.  

  At that screen, click the words enable popular websites or enable specific websites by name.

• How do I BLOCK or ALLOW other websites?

You can set McGruff SafeGuard to block access to specific inappropriate websites, or terminate the browser when an inappropriate website is visited,or allow access to certain websites, or monitor websites, or to set the times when your child are allowed access to websites (such as MySpace or facebook).

Sign in to the McGruff SafeGuard website, click CONTROL, then click WEBSITES.

For each website, you can specify:

• Block visits to this website
• Terminate the browser (such as Internet Explorer) when visiting this website
• Always allow visits to this website (even if it would be blocked due to being age-inappropriate). 
• Send alert when visiting this website
• Allow access to this website during certain times, and blocked at all other times.

• How do I let my child visit a website that is normally blocked?

  On your child's PC, hold down the CTRL and ALT keys, and type the digit 9.

  On your child's PC, a window pops up requesting your override password:

  

After you enter your override password, the web filter pops up:

Specify how long web filtering should be turned off (from 5 minutes to 2 days).

You can hide the yellow window and web filtering will continue to be turned off until the time has expired.

Then enter your override password. 

• Why do I see AOL Parental Controls when a site is blocked.

McGruff SafeGuard uses the AOL web filtering technology to classify sites as either CHILD safe, YOUNG-TEEN safe, TEEN  safe or ADULT.

AOL has analyzed tens of millions of websites, and is the most advanced technology for preventing your children from visiting age-inappropriate websites.

Some parents choose to not inform their children that they are monitoring their online activities with McGruff SafeGuard to keep them safe.  For this reason McGruff SafeGuard shows the AOL page (instead of a McGruff SafeGuard page) when the site is blocked.

• How do I IGNORE other websites?

You can set McGruff SafeGuard to ignore certain websites that are visited often, but are not important to monitor.

Instead of specifying the exact URL of the website, such as:

netflix550.as.nflximg.com.edgesuite.net/sa13/541/2097596541

You can simply include part of the URL that relates to the website, such as:

netflix

Sign in to the McGruff SafeGuard website, click CONTROL, then click WEBSITES. 

Enter the website to control (in this case netflix), click Ignore this website.
