Customizing Buttons & Screens

You can customize McGruff SafeGuard to not show certain buttons or screens.  Using this feature, you can create a browser with only those features that you want to expose to your family.

This feature requires that you purchase the GOLD in-app upgrade.

Settings are controlled using the iPhone/iPad SETTINGS app (the GEAR icon on the home screen).


Select SafeGuard and you will see a screen similar to:


Enter your SafeGuard Parental Control password.  The password IS NOT validated when you enter it on this screen. 

It will be validated (and the settings enabled) the next time you start the SafeGuard browser app.   After you change some settings, restart the SafeGuard app.  If the password you entered was not valid, all changes are ignored.

Once you restart the SafeGuard browser app:
  1. The password is validated
  2. SafeGuard enables your new settings
  3. You are notified of the change

Bookmarks Button

If you want to hide the Bookmarks button (iPhone/iPod: bottom bar, iPad: top bar), switch Button is visible to OFF. Once you do that, you will not be able to access Parental Controls in SafeGuard (since you access it via the Bookmarks screen).

When you need to access Parental Control settings again:
  • Terminate the SafeGuard browser app (How to terminate)
  • Click the SETTINGS button on the home screen, and select SafeGuard
  • Enter your SafeGuard Parental Control password
  • Switch Button is visible to ON
  • Start the SafeGuard browser app
  • Touch the Bookmarks button (now that its visible again)
  • Select Parental Controls

Individual Bookmarks on the Bookmarks Screen

You can hide the following bookmarks:
  • Parental Control
  • History - history of web sites visited
  • Reading List - sites that were added to the reading list
  • Settings - browser settings, such as Clear Cache
  • Getting Started - initial Help screen
  • Email Developer - sends us an email
